چکیده
Viscoelastic materials containing bubbles or drops are encountered in numerous application fields, and presently the object of much interest. The motion these matrices can be significantly different than Newtonian fluids. This review is restricted to case quiescent fluids (or small Reynolds number) drops, that not appreciably deformed during their motion. It includes a brief description properties viscoelastic systems solid particles systems. very undergoing Brownian related recent advances microrheology. larger due gravity yield stress discussed linked Ostwald ripening. Recent on understanding rheological composite also briefly discussed.

Thermocapillary motion of deformable drops and bubbles
In this paper we report on a numerical method to include Marangoni forces into a finitevolume solver for multi-phase flows. Our work is motivated by the question of whether thermal fluctuations typically found in combustion applications can impact the atomization of fuel drops due to variations in surface tension. To verify and validate our proposed method, we compare our results to theoretical...
متن کاملAscending motion of drops in stratified fluids
In this paper, we examine spatio-temporal evolution of free moving drops in a vertically stratified fluid and study the role of stratification on the rise velocity of a single drop, two drops and a swarm of rising drops. Utilizing fully resolved three-dimensional Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS), we discuss the effects of density stratification on the interaction of two drops and microstructu...
متن کاملSmall-amplitude swimmers can self-propel faster in viscoelastic fluids.
Many small organisms self-propel in viscous fluids using travelling wave-like deformations of their bodies or appendages. Examples include small nematodes moving through soil using whole-body undulations or spermatozoa swimming through mucus using flagellar waves. When self-propulsion occurs in a non-Newtonian fluid, one fundamental question is whether locomotion will occur faster or slower tha...
متن کاملAspiration of biological viscoelastic drops.
Spherical cellular aggregates are in vitro systems to study the physical and biophysical properties of tissues. We present a novel approach to characterize the mechanical properties of cellular aggregates using a micropipette aspiration technique. We observe an aspiration in two distinct regimes: a fast elastic deformation followed by a viscous flow. We develop a model based on this viscoelasti...
متن کاملBiocompatibility of fluids for multiphase drops-in-drops microfluidics
This paper addresses the biocompatibility of fluids and surfactants in the context of microfluidics and more specifically in a drops-in-drops system for mammalian cell based drug screening. In the drops-in-drops approach, three immiscible fluids are used to manipulate the flow of aqueous microliter-sized drops; it enables merging of drops containing cells with drops containing drugs within a Te...
